‘Frozen’ Director Jennifer Lee Will Work Her Magic on ‘A Wrinkle in Time’
‘Frozen‘ hit theaters in November of last year and fans are still singing its praises to this day — quite literally. So, now that its director and co-writer has chosen her next project in adapting ‘A Wrinkle in Time,’ will she have another international sensation on her hands?
Disney’s version of ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ was first announced in 2010, but now Variety reports that Jennifer Lee will write the screenplay, while remaining involved in Disney Animation’s post-‘Frozen’ projects. ‘Frozen’ was all about female empowerment and the bond of sisterhood outweighing that of the classical “true love” trope, and Lee has once again impressed executives with a strong female-driven narrative.
‘A Wrinkle in Time’ is based on the novel by Madeleine L’Engle, and focuses on the story of Meg and Charles, two siblings who travel through time in search of their missing father, a scientist working on a secret government project involving a “wrinkle in time.” The book is the first in L’Engle’s ‘Time Quartet’ series, comprised of ‘A Wind in the Door,’ ‘Many Waters’ and ‘A Swiftly Tilting Planet.’
No director is yet attached to Disney’s ‘A Wrinkle in Time,’ though given Lee’s passion for the project and the story, perhaps she’ll step up to the plate. Lord knows Disney wouldn’t object, since she directed the studio’s biggest animated film of all time.
