Could a Crossbones One-Shot Be Next for Marvel?

Crossbones Marvel One-Shot

As the Marvel movies continue to grow by leaps and bounds, their short films (or “One-Shots”) continue to up their game, as well. The latest One-Shot, titled ‘All Hail the King,’ was written and directed by ‘Iron Man 3‘ co-writer Drew Pearce and will be available to watch on the home release of ‘Thor: The Dark World.’ But that’s not all: Pearce recently revealed that he has plenty more where that came from.

In addition to writing a currently shelved cinematic take on Marvel’s popular ‘Runaways’ series, Pearce told Total Film that he wrote a handful of One-Shots, but ‘All Hail the King’ got pushed to the front of the line because Ben Kingsley, who played Trevor Slattery in ‘Iron Man 3,’ agreed to reprise the character. As for the One-Shots that he’s written that haven’t made it to the screen yet:

One that was Sin and Crossbones (from ‘Captain America’). I love Jessica Jones, and while obviously Jessica Jones and Alias is now going to exist in the Netflix part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I’d always obsessively been trying to put her in stuff I’d been working with Marvel on… but about three or four other ones, too. My Marvel obsession with Damage Control is still there… but it’s pretty difficult to make into a short. The clue is in the title that you have to do a lot of damage to then control it – and that’s not really in the budget of a short movie. I just think it’s got huge potential as a franchise.

While he admits these ideas are not guaranteed to be pushed through by Marvel, we imagine that his proposed Crossbones One-Shot has the best chance of getting made next. The villain is entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe with ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ as played by Frank Grillo, who previously said that Marvel has plans to include the villain in future projects. We wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up getting his own short film on a future DVD release.

The most exciting of Pearce’s ideas is undoubtedly Damage Control, a construction company in the Marvel universe that specializes in cleaning up cities after super-powered brawls wreck them. It’s an extremely clever idea and would make for a wonderful comedic TV series. However, Pearce correctly pointed out that it could be a little beyond a typical One-Shot’s budget.
