Demi Lovato: It’s Too ‘Hard’ to Watch Myself on TV

It has been three years since she completed a three-month treatment program for bulimia and anorexia, and Demi Lovato still finds it difficult to see herself onscreen.

“It is still hard being in front of the camera when you have suffered from eating disorders, and I still don’t watch my episodes,” the ‘X Factor’ judge, 21, revealed to reporters at the show on Nov. 14. “It is hard.”

Lovato has long been open about her personal battles (in addition to her eating disorders, she also suffered from bipolar disorder, self-harm, and substance abuse), hoping that by sharing her own experiences, she can help others dealing with similar issues.

“I was called a role model the second I made it in the industry, and I never felt like one. I finally feel like a role model, and I am doing the things I am supposed to do in this world,” said the singer, who recently published a new book, ‘Stay Strong: 365 Days A Year.’ “This [book] is one of the small ways I can make a difference – if it changes one person’s life or makes someone happy and changes their energy in their day.”

And while Lovato, who has a guest stint on ‘Glee‘ this season, is currently focused on her music career, that doesn’t mean she has given up acting for good.

“I think ultimately my main thing is singing,” she said. “Maybe movies once in a while, if the right role comes along.”
