‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Will Not Include a Stan Lee Cameo
To date, Stan Lee has made a cameo appearance in every single one of the Marvel Studios films (the Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America and Avengers movies). But, that streak is about to end as Lee confirms that he won’t be making an appearance in this summer’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘.
Despite Lee’s appearance in all of Marvel’s in-house movies (and most all of the movies based on Marvel characters), his trademark cameo will be absent from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. Lee explains it simply, telling DweebCast, “This is the one group that I didn’t create. I’m not even sure who they all are.” (He clearly didn’t read our handy-dandy guide, Who Are the Guardians of the Galaxy…)
While Lee was still around at Marvel in 1969 when the Guardians of the Galaxy were born, the superhero team itself was created by writer Arnold Drake and artist Gene Colan. Even though he didn’t create them, we’re still a little surprised he has no idea who they are (he was the editor of Marvel Comics).
There has been some speculation that part of Lee’s contract with Marvel Studios is that he is offered a cameo in all the movies based on characters he created (also why he doesn’t appear in any of the Wolverine movies). It would’ve been tough to naturally fit him into ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ anyway, considering so little (if any?) of the movie actually takes place on Earth.
For fans of Stan the Man, you’ll be happy to know that ‘Captain America 2‘ does feature a cameo and we’ll guess that he’ll also pop up in ‘Avengers 2‘ when that starts filming this summer. As for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, you’ll reportedly get your first official look at the movie during the 2014 Super Bowl.
