Yesterday brought the news that Netflix’s original political thriller, ‘House of Cards,’ would debut its entire second season on Valentine’s Day 2014 (all romantic evenings should involve Kevin Spacey and a Southern accent). While the announcement was short on new material, today ‘House of Cards’ has a stylish new poster to make up for it.
Much like the bleeding American imagery that permeated promotion of the first season, the new ‘House of Cards’ season 2 poster focuses on Francis Underwood’s (Spacey) lapel pin, this time adding an official drop of blood from the inverted American flag logo. The first season finale left Frank in an impressive position of power, though it seems that won’t stop a little bloodshed in clawing his way to the top.
Says the official logline for the season:
In the second season, Francis (Spacey) and Claire (Wright) Underwood continue their ruthless rise to power as threats mount on all fronts. Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara, “American Horror Story”), an up-and-coming reporter and Francis’s former paramour, is inching closer to the truth about his crimes. President Walker’s (Michel Gill, “The Good Wife”) billionaire confidante Raymond Tusk (Gerald McRaney, “Southland”) demands that Francis reciprocate political favors or face retribution. And Claire must confront the increasing glare of the spotlight as it eats away at her and Francis’s once private existence. The Underwood’s must overcome these dangers — past and present — to avoid losing everything, regardless of collateral damage they leave in their wake.
‘House of Cards’ season 2 will see new parts for Molly Parker (‘Dexter‘), Sam Page (‘Mad Men‘) and Jimmi Simpson (‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘), a series regular promotion for Michael Gill (President Garrett Walker), and the loss of director David Fincher. In Fincher’s absence, Emmy nominee Robin Wright will step behind the camera to helm episodes of the political series, as will ‘Orange Is the New Black’ guest director Jodie Foster, Carl Franklin (‘Homeland‘), James Foley (‘Glengarry Glen Ross’) and John David Coles (‘Justified‘).
We’re still waiting for news of a potential third season or a trailer for the second, but check out the snazzy new ‘House of Cards’ season 2 poster below, and tell us if you’ll make a Valentine’s Day binge watch in the comments!
