Gift cards get a bad rap.  People say "it's not personal enough" or "nice that you spent no time or thought on finding me a gift".  I, however, LOVE THEM.  I think it's great to be able to purchase exactly what I want.  Which is exactly what I did yesterday with a gift card I got from my in-laws for Christmas.

I do most of the cooking at my house. I enjoy it and am pretty decent around the kitchen. Cracking a coldie and making dinner actually helps me unwind a little when I get home from work.  For years I've been plugging away with my old trusty department store kitchen knife. It has served me well but It's definitely seen better days... The tip broke from that one time I was trying to pry a batch of homemade caramels out of the pan with it.  The serrated, non-sharpen-able blade had two big dings in it where someone apparently tried to use it so smack an edge. I swear it was one of the kids.

Chefs will always tell you the importance of a good knife. I agree wholeheartedly. I recently saw one of my cook buddies using one of these Mercer knifes and he let me try it out. As soon as I felt it, I knew I had to have one.  It's extremely sharp, feels great in your hand and cuts everything like butter. Quality German steel, lifetime warranty.  If you cook, you deserve a nice knife. This one was only $40 from JV Restaurant Supply on Broadwater.  You can get them a little cheaper online, but I like supporting local business and I hate waiting for shipping, even 2 days on Prime because I'm impatient like that.

I honestly can't wait to get home tonight to cut stuff. BTW, there will be some cool cooking stuff at Family Life Expo this Saturday at Metra Park Expo center. Hope to see you there!

Next time,

Michael
