Those who tuned into Sunday night’s Grammy Awards were in for a special treat: Disney debuted a new 90-second ‘Maleficent‘ trailer, featuring Lana Del Rey performing a haunting cover of the original animated classic’s signature “Once Upon a Dream” tune. Coupled with some epic new footage, the end result was rather breathtaking and just the sort of thing to get us properly excited for the upcoming film, starring Angelina Jolie as the classic Disney villain.

Up until now, some of the footage we’ve seen for ‘Maleficent’ has, unfortunately, called to mind Tim Burton’s ‘Alice,’ but this 90-second trailer provides a sneak peek at a film that feels more epic and action-packed. The new footage still highlights Jolie’s Maleficent, but Elle Fanning‘s Princess Aurora takes a backseat to the war being waged in the kingdom between the king (Sharlto Copley) and Maleficent, whose side of the story we’re being told for the very first time.

There’s a bit of a ‘Game of Thrones‘ vibe to some of these sweeping shots, as well as some CG-heavy fantasy stuff — there seems like there might be a good balance between the more fantastical elements and the darker action. Definitely more ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ than ‘Alice,’ for sure. And how about that incredible cover by Lana Del Rey? That definitely helps sell it.

The official synopsis:

‘Maleficent’ explores the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the classic “Sleeping Beauty” and the elements of her betrayal that ultimately turn her pure heart to stone. Driven by revenge and a fierce desire to protect the moors over which she presides, Maleficent cruelly places an irrevocable curse upon the human king’s newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Aurora is caught in the middle of the seething conflict between the forest kingdom she has grown to love and the human kingdom that holds her legacy. Maleficent realizes that Aurora may hold the key to peace in the land and is forced to take drastic actions that will change both worlds forever.

‘Maleficent’ also stars Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville, and hits theaters on May 30.
