I had skin cancer.  There, I said it and I really did.  It was melanoma as well.  One of the yucky ones, that you do not want to have. Worse yet? I didn't even know.

How did I find out?  A wonderful woman I worked with pointed out one day, that I had a cute, blue mole.  This, all while flying by my desk at work.  She literally raced by my desk, stopped backed up, commented on my mole and then sped off.

Sounds pretty funny, right? I thought so too at the time.  Thank God above she did too.  It made me take a really good look at it.  It was on my forearm, in plain sight.  I'd always had a slight little mole there. Nothing to worry about.

However, how I missed it turning blue, is beyond me.  I went immediately to the dermatologist to get it checked. I won't say where I went, as I feel like it's in now way, a recommendation.  The doctor was horrible and her bedside manner atrocious.

They cut I don't know how many moles off of me, just to check them.  One ended up being pre-cancer and one ended up...yep,  you got it.  Melanoma. When we found out, my Mom started crying and my husband looked like he wanted too.  Not cool.  I was freaked.

I ended up having it and the surrounding tissue(sounds gross, right?) removed and I got the "All Clear".  For now.  Because, once you've had it.  You are way more likely to get it again.  Now I'm to wear 90 proof sunscreen, on even the cloudiest, winter day. Ugh!

So now, I'm pretty anti tanning beds and stuff.  I was never big on them in the first place, but I went yearly to them at least.  Not anymore. Spray tannings all this girl gets anymore. Which is a bummer, but the alternative?  Nah, not for me.

But it's no joke. Click here on this link for more information on how to check yourself and more.  Your life may depend on it.
