The Montana State Supreme Court has reversed a district court's decision on the sentencing of former high school teacher Stacey Rambold. Rambold was charged with raping a freshman student.

The court ruled that District Court Judge G. Todd Baugh was incorrect when he sentenced Rambold to only a month in jail. The Attorney General's office argued that Rambold should have served the mandatory minimum sentencing of four years in jail after he plead guilty to sexual assault without consent.

The Montana Supreme Court was also critical of the remarks that Judge Baugh made during the course of the trial, including his misunderstanding of the relationship between an adult teacher and minor pupil. The case will now be handed to a different judge to handle the next steps in the process.
