UPDATE 10:48 am

Yellowstone County Sheriff's Deputy Coroner Chad Fehr has identified the stabbing victim as Michael S. Sample, 66. County Attorney Scott Twito told the Billings Gazette that it's very likely that the the stabbing suspect, Zachariah James Wiseman, will be in court to face charges early next week.

The Billings Gazette reports that Michael Sample was a well known photographer here in Billings. Mr. Sample and Billings Gazette Chief Photographer Larry Mayer collaborated on a book , "Montana on My Mind," which was published in 1987.


UPDATE 9:21 am

Q2 News is now reporting that the victim, a 66 year old man, has died from his wounds sustained in the stabbing. Police Lt. Jeremy House says 23 year old Zachariah Wiseman is now facing charges of deliberate homicide and is being detained in the Yellowstone County jail.

Q2 News reports that Wiseman has previous charges of felony robbery and misdemeanor assault in Missoula.


According to a report from Q2 News police and emergency medical personel responded to calls of an altercation in downtown Billings. Upon arrival they found an older gentleman suffering from a stab wound to the chest. The altercation took place in a parking lot behind The Rex restaurant.

Lt. Jeremy House told Q2 news that the victim is in serious condition.
