This weekend Billings is hosting the "Above The Rim" 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament.

This is a three-day event dedicated to skills, sportsmanship and competition. The registration was wild this year; every bracket is completely filled.

The event, Aug. 7-9, is focused on basketball. However, it’s more than just bouncing a ball on a court. This tournament is bigger than that; it’s about teaching and helping kids. Sports are a wonderful tool to teach team work, self-confidence, physical agility and strength.

There’s something wonderful about watching a kid learn how to be successful. For so many that happens in a team atmosphere and sports are the conduit for it.

That’s my first favorite part of the "Above The Rim" 3 on 3 Basketball Tournaments!  My second favorite part is the community feel that this event brings. It’s really fun to watch, there’s always food vendors and lots of people that come out to support their kids and friends.

This event begins Friday. The day will be focused on a skills camp for kids ages 7-17.  The camp is full this year.  If you have a son or daughter who thinks they like basketball, this camp is a perfect summer opportunity.

This year, campers will also get to meet Zach LaVine, rookie with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Seriously, put this camp in your plan for next year and get your kids involved in it.  Go to www.bigskyballin.com for more info on the kids’ skills camp.

Saturday and Sunday is all about the game. It’s great to watch; high energy, lots of fun and that amazing community feel that you want in Billings.  The parking lot of the Shrine Auditorium will be painted for the 3rd Annual “Above the Rim” 3 on 3 basketball tournament to get underway. Around noon there will be a slam dunk contest and Zach LaVine will be on hand to judge.  Divisions start at grade three and will include teams for men, women, co-ed and even an Elite bracket for the homegrown super stars.

Big Sky Ballin’ is the parent company of the Annual “Above The Rim” 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament hosted in Billings. The goal is to promote competition and sportsmanship through healthy activity. In addition, this family-oriented event will create a positive economic impact by bringing hundreds of players and fans to Billings.

Check it out this weekend.  You won’t be sorry!
