The writing's on the wall...and also, apparently, on Tom Daley's phone.

While Sam Smith was making his acceptance speech alongside Jimmy Napes after winning Best Original Song during last night's 88th annual Academy Awards for their Spectre theme song "Writing's On The Wall," the young crooner incorrectly cited an article, mistakenly suggesting he was possibly-maybe the first openly gay Oscar winner (he is not) before quickly admitting he wasn't sure if that was actually true — and then proudly accepting the award on behalf of the LGBT community.

It was a well-intentioned, if misinformed gesture of solidarity (a quick Google search to make sure just before wingin' it in front of the world might have been good), but not everyone was quick to overlook the error.

Dustin Lance Black, one of those openly gay Oscar winners, was evidently, uh...less than pleased with Sam's lack of knowledge.

And so, he delivered a dig directly aimed at Sam — and things just got very real.

"Hey @SamSmithWorld, if you have no idea who I am, it may be time to stop texting my fiancé. Here's a start," he wrote on Twitter, linking to a video of his own 2009 Best Original Screenplay Oscar acceptance speech for Milk.

Err, wait. Sorry. Sam Smith is...texting Dustin Lance Black's fiancé — otherwise known as Olympic medalist, health and fitness guru and owner of enviable washboard abs, Tom Daley?

And...what's in those texts, exactly? Diving pointers? Tips for incorporating lemon into a daily diet? Nudes?

Your move, Sam.
