Beartooth Rally and the Iron Horse Rodeo is this weekend (7/14 - 7/17) in beautiful Red Lodge, Montana. If you've skipped the event the last couple of years, you should really consider participating this year. The community could really use your support. The devasting floods in Red Lodge and surrounding towns earlier this spring have caused a big hit on local tourism dollars, an essential part of the area's economy.

Business owners in Red Lodge, Absarokee, Cooke City, Fromberg, Bearcreek, and Bridger want you to know that they're open. One of the best ways you can help support the towns affected by the floods is to spend some money in their communities. Buy that burger, milkshake, t-shirt, or beer.

No ride over Beartooth Pass this year.

Unfortunately, Beartooth Pass remains closed on the Montana side, beginning at mile marker 45 south of Red Lodge. MDOT says on the 511 website that "tentatively the highway may reopen in late July, 2022."  Unless a road construction miracle happens in the next few days, the big Rally Run on Saturday will have a modified route this year. Riders will take the Chief Joseph Highway to Top of the World, where there will be food, drinks, shopping, and 91 octane gas available.

Camping at the Red Lodge Fairgrounds

Forest Service campgrounds in the area are typically pretty full this time of year and hotels in Red Lodge usually fill up quickly in the summertime (especially during Rally weekend). However, a post from the Red Lodge Life Facebook page said this week that "many of the lodging and camping facilities still have availability for your stay." Camping is also an option at the Red Lodge Fairgrounds for just $20 a night.

The fun starts Thursday and wraps up Sunday with the Iron Horse Rodeo.

Make a day of it, or spend the whole weekend in Red Lodge. Here's the itinerary for the 2022 Rally.

  • Local Poker Walk, Thursday 7/14. No bike is necessary for this stroll around downtown Red Lodge.
  • Bone Daddy's Loop Poker Run, Friday 7/15. This jaunt takes you around a handful of neighboring town bars. Think of it as a warm-up for the big ride on Saturday.
  • Beartooth Pass Poker Run, Saturday 7/16. You don't have to buy a card to participate in this epic ride up the Chief Joseph Highway, but playing the game for a chance to win prizes can certainly add to your fun.
  • Iron Horse Rodeo, Sunday 7/17. If you've never witnessed the Iron Horse Rodeo, you're in for a treat. Watch for the Hot Dog Limbo, always a crowd favorite.
