It's been a long time since I've seen one of these little critters. Probably when I was a kid in the Midwest. So, I was pleasantly surprised when my 14 yr old excitedly found this green dude hanging out in a flower pot on our porch steps.

The Praying Mantis is usually found in tropical and temperate climates. Thus, not so many in Montana. They are sometimes "imported" by gardeners, who use them to eat nasty bugs. The ancients thought they had super powers. Their little bulgy-eyed heads sure do look like aliens.

This guy (girl?) was going to be a show-and-tell subject for my first grader, but kindness wore out and they let him go back in the flower pot he came from. Good luck getting thru the winter, Mantis. Good luck.

Next time,

Michael
