Mariah Carey Covers George Michael’s ‘One More Try’ Live For First Time
Carey, who recorded a remake of the song for her 2014 album Me. I am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse, put a delicate touch on the track at the Dubai Jazz Festival. Carey introduced the track by saying the song is in "honor of someone I really admire" and called it "one of the greatest records."
"We'll just do a little bit in honor of him," she said.
"One More Try" was Michael's fifth single from his debut album, 1987's Faith. The song reached the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
Michael died on Christmas Day 2016 at age 53 after sudden heart failure.
Carey and Michael were famously fans of each other's. In 2014, After hearing Carey had recorded "One More Try," Michael called Carey "one of the best voices in the world," to which Carey responded "You and this song have always meant so much to me. Fan and friend for life."
After Michael's death, Carey left a memorial on her website, through which she credited Michael with crafting the very first Christmas classic "Last Christmas."
"He touched so many lives and inspired us all," she wrote. "George Michael was an original. He changed music and his music changed lives."
