Montana Combat Vets MC Hosting Poker Run to Cooke City this Weekend

After serving our country, many Veterans frequently seem to get the short end of the stick from Uncle Sam and the VA when it comes to their physical and mental health after the fact. It's sad but true. Thankfully, Montanans have proudly stepped up to help when the government fails our servicemen and women. A number of generous Veterans organizations are based in Big Sky Country, providing services and programs for Montanans who have served our great country.

Warrior Wishes Montana, The Adaptive Performance Center, The Montana Veterans Meat Locker, Warriors and Quiet Waters, and Dog Tag Buddies are just a few that instantly spring to mind. Many of these organizations have been featured guests on our radio shows. We basically have an open door for those who give their time and money to help support our Montana heroes and their families.

Today, our KBUL NewsTalk host and contributor Aaron Flint had the opportunity to chat with two Montana combat vets who are also bikers. They're with the Combat Vets Motorcycle Club and the group is hosting its inaugural Poker Run on Saturday, August 19th. Club president Adam "Ammo" Olivas explained what sets their group apart from other veteran-based riding organizations,

...this one's unique in the sense that it is compiled of guys that not only just served in a combat zone but were actively engaged in combat. Not taking away from anybody else's service but that's a completely different entity on a whole nother level, and we're able to support each other in various ways as well as enjoy going on long rides and what-not with our family.

The Montana chapter is relatively new and they're excited to host their first poker run on Saturday, with plenty of great stops and gorgeous scenery along the way.

Everyone, veteran or civilian, is invited to participate. In fact, you don't even have to ride a motorcycle to participate. Bring the family truckster! Entry is $20 per bike (or other vehicles) and Poker Cards are $5 each. Registration begins at 10.

Stops include Red Lodge Ale, Cooke City Miners Saloon, Edelweiss Bar, and concludes back in Laurel at High Plains Brewery. Participants can win tons of cool prizes, including cash, a dyno session, liquor baskets and so much more.

The event is a fundraiser for Gold Star Teen Adventures, an awesome organization that helps give outdoor adventure experiences to teenagers who have lost a military parent in action. They write,

Gold Star Teen Adventures offers unique, fun,  and impactful outdoor adventures to the children of our nation’s heroes who lost their lives in the line of duty. Our organization was founded on a vision of providing an environment where youth can come together and be a part of new and exciting experiences with others who have shared a similar journey.
