Oh man, I LOVE Deadwood, SD. If you've never been... imagine a cross between Red Lodge and Reno. It's a tiny little mountain town that get's pretty quiet in the winter. But during the summer, it's non-stop fun. With literally millions of tourists heading thru the Black Hills this little town gets a lot more exciting in the summer months.

There are wild west "shoot-outs" daily on Main Street, where western actors portray the shoot out of Wild Bill Hickok. Not historically accurate (Wild Bill was shot in a card game, not in the street) they are fun to watch. There is an old-timey trolley that runs up and down the street all day and into the early evening. Tons of shopping and touristy things to do as well. Like tours of some old gold mines, the Vortex Mystery place, panning for gold, hiking, ziplines, etc. Plus, if you stay in Deadwood during your Black Hills trip, you get up in the mountains where it's usually a little cooler.

I love the lower-stakes gambling. I think you can still play $3 blackjack. Most tables are $5 - $20.  A huge variety of slot-machines at the local casinos, including a few that still pay out buckets of coins if you win. Clang, clang, clang clang!! Winner winner! So much fun.  Food, drinks and gambling in Deadwood is SUBSTANTIALLY less expensive than Vegas.

Why not take a late summer family trip to Deadwood? So much to see and do and less than 5 hours away. Not a bad drive by Montana standards.  If you're going, check out this super sweet offer from our friends at Deadwood Gulch Gaming Resort. Two nights accommodations for two, breakfast for two daily and $20 in free slot play for just $110! Only available here: at Seize The Deal.

See ya at the Blackjack table!

Michael
