Snow In Beartooths, Up To 2″ Of Rain Possible For Billings Area

Before temps are forecast to jump up to the upper 80's this weekend, Billings will be cold and soggy through Wednesday (9/11), with heavy snow possible in the mountains.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through 6am Thursday (9/12) for the Beartooth Mountains, where up to 8 inches of snow is possible. Travelers should be prepared for changing weather conditions, snow covered roads, and limited visibility through the Beartooth Pass. N.W.S. reminds backpackers to be prepared for cold and wet weather.

Thunderstoms will arrive in Yellowstone County after 3am on Wednesday (9/11), and may produce heavy rainfall, according to the National Weather Service. Billings could get 1 to 1.5 inches, Hardin up to 2 inches, and areas around Miles City could see up to 3 inches. Heaviest rainfall is expected Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Most of Northeast Montana is under a Flood Watch through Thursday (9/12) morning, with heavy rains expected to bring high flows to area creeks and streams. Areas of Beaver Creek and Milk River could see flooding.
