‘Tis The Season For a Flood of Job Openings in Billings
As we celebrate Labor Day, a day set aside to celebrate workers' contributions to this country's well-being, it is worth noting that here in Billings, we have an unemployment rate of just under 3 percent.
That's a pretty impressive number, but for those who are out of work and looking, here are a couple of things to consider:
- Many Summer Jobs have been abandoned since school has started. I know these aren't dream jobs for most adults, but for someone trying to make ends meet, they are certainly an option. Fast food restaurants all over Billings have signs up looking for employees, all of which are paying more than Montana's minimum wage. A lot of the big box stores and retail chains are in the same boat as some of their younger workforce has headed back to the classrooms.
- I know it's September, but retail stores and any other businesses that get an increase of traffic in the holiday season are already making their fourth quarter plans, which include hiring more employees.
- Also, if you, or someone in your life, has limited mobility or other challenges that prevent them from commuting, standing, or doing physical labor, they should keep an eye on internet based companies, like Amazon, who hire hundreds of work-at-home customer-service employees.
