Guests, workers, and caffeine addicts in and around the downtown Billings DoubleTree Hotel were greeted with a notice that Starbucks coffee is "closed" for an upcoming renovation.

Are these renovations bringing a NEW coffee chain?

While phone calls and emails to the Seattle-based coffeehouse chain were not returned, rumors have been circulating since late April that Starbucks would not be staying at the hotel. Mainly because of a brand new downtown Billings location that's near completion at 1017 N. 27th Street.

Who's moving into the space? Unconfirmed reports have Billings-based City Brew taking over the vacancy inside the DoubleTree Hotel. City Brew already has one downtown coffee shop at 1211 N. 27th Street, just two blocks from where the new Starbucks is expected to open in the upcoming weeks.

Calls to City Brew's corporate office were not returned.
